You can be forgiven for never having heard of baidu.com before. Unless you visit China on a regular basis or are indeed Chinese you probably know who these guys are. They are basically the Chinese Google. An equivelent if you like. It does not take a genius to see that when you visit their website it actually imitates the look and behaviour of Google itself.
There are some benefits of being listed on this search engine, whether your website is Chinese or not. Let us look at some of the statistics of this giant search engine:
It Is A Busy Search Engine
During Q4 of 2010 there were just over 4 billion search queries in China, of this 4 billion, just under 57% was conducted from baidu.com
It has an web page index just short of 850 million as well as millions of images and videos.
There are some downsides though
Baidu is seriously censored, as per the Chinese government regulations in place (This is what Google are struggling with)
There has been a lot of speculation regarding their copyright violations so if you are an author or writer, you may want to think about posting anything.
If you are a web design agency like Pebble you will know that countries are irrelevent and there are no borders when designing and developing websites and a good search ranking on Baidu is as good as one on other major search engines like Google and Bing.
