Resubmitting a Sitemap to Google

Keeping Google up to date with your latest web pages is vital. We have detailed 2 methods below which will allow you to quickly keep Google up to date with your website pages. Of course, Google doesn’t guarantee to add all your pages to its index but it is well worth keeping your sitemap up to date.

Method 1. Google Webmaster Tools

Login into Google Websmaster Tools
Choose the website you want to manage
Choose “Crawl” > “Sitemaps”
Your list of sitemaps are shown at the bottom of the page. If you have recently added or removed pages on your website, click on the checkbox next to your sitemap and click “Resubmit”

Method 2. Update via HTTP

If you choose this method you do not need to do it via Webmaster Tools.

Simply enter this into your favourite web browser:

Simple View:

http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ping?sitemap=http://www.yourwebsite.com/sitemap.xml

Ensure you URL encode everything in the sitemap variable.

So the actual link you will use is:

http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ping?sitemap=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.yourwebsite.com%2Fsitemap.xml

If this works you will receive:

Sitemap Notification Received
Your Sitemap has been successfully added to our list of Sitemaps to crawl. If this is the first time you are notifying Google about this Sitemap, please add it via http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ so you can track its status. Please note that we do not add all submitted URLs to our index, and we cannot make any predictions or guarantees about when or if they will appear.

Things to remember:

Do not submit this more than once per hour (THis is considered spammy and Google may block your IP address)
